Power Hoop By donnabc on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
My son decided he wanted to play basketball this year. Why, I'm not sure. But it quickly became apparent that we desperately needed a goal for him to practice with at home. So, off we went to Walmart. They had quite a few to choose from but I wanted one that could be moved. So this is the one we chose.
The pole is mounted on a big black plastic box that you fill with water to keep the goal upright. This basketball net has served us well for about six months I'd say and was definately worth the money (slightly over a $100). I'm always looking for things to keep the kids (and us) outside and active :0)
One word of caution though. Do NOT park your car within crashing distance of this goal as a good wind or storm WILL bring it down! Ours has blown over several times and we haven't even been through hurricane season yet :0)
UPDATE:
My son has enjoyed his basketball hoop and it still looks new. Being able to move it from one place in the driveway to another has come in handy with 4 drivers (and cars) at our house. However, there is one thing about this product that I am not too crazy about....in moderate winds it tips over. I've seen several other hoops exactly like this one with cinder blocks piled on the stand and now I know why.
Lifetime Power Hoop Portable Purchased at: Walmart Price: ?

I love that this is portable!! Are you able to put bags of sand on or around the base to make it more stable for storms? I don't want your cars to get damaged if this topples over!
Yes, a friend's fell on my car. We were all thankful that it didn't do any real damage. But it could have. Is this the kind with 2 wheels, and you tip it and wheel it like a big piece of luggage?
Thanks for the word of caution :0) Is this from experience?
We had one where the base was weighted with sand that helped stabilize it. These are great unless you do get big wind (we do) in which case an over the garage door hoop might be safer.
Too bad a big wind can blow it over. You'd think they'd make the base heavier.
We own one very similar to this one, have you tried filling it with sand? That's what we and it has only fallen over once but that was from a snow plow truck.
Thanks for the information. I wonder if they could add some sort of stake to tie it down or reinforce it.
