Precious Moments By uaezarb on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I started collecting Precious Moments about 27 years ago, when my daughter was born. My mom gave me my first figurine of a mother rocking her baby. I have loved them and collected them ever since. The nativity set I own is one of my favorite Christmas decorations. Sam Butcher is the artist that created the Precious Moments. In the early 70's he started out selling cards and posters of his artwork, until he was approached by a company named Enesco to make figurines of his characters. In 1978 the first 21 original Precious Moment figurines were made, and they were an instant hit with the public and continue to be popular. There is even a club that you can join to get special members only pieces.
The pieces are made of bisque ceramic and are beautifully painted in soft hues. They have literally hundreds to choose from and even carry Disney themed pieces. They start at around $20, so they are very affordable. You can buy these at stores like Hallmark and stores that sell collectibles and also online.
These make perfect gifts, because they have figurines for so many different occasions, from holidays, to birthdays, anniversaries and weddings. In addition to the figurines, there are also dolls, ornaments, books and plush animals to name a few.
Check out the website, preciousmoments.com I'm sure you can find something you like and maybe you will even start your own collection.

They are so cute. We made a quilt for our pastor's wife once with each of us doing one PM cross-stitch square.
I have tons of Precious Moments also! They are sitting on shelves all over my daughters room.
Oooooh...I love these guys! We even had on for our wedding cake topper. :-)
I have one of twins (one girl and one boy) that we got as a gift when our twins were born - they are sooo cute!
I have always loved Precious Moments. My mom used to get them for me. I recently bought a stuffed rabbit Precious Moments for my daughter. They are a great thing to collect. Thanks for telling the history of them. Very interesting.
I love them! My Mom gave me a Bible with Precious Moments, it is the sweetest thing!!
I used to have a large collection of precious moments. At my high point I had almost 150 pieces. The nativity set was one of my favorites too. I had all the matching pieces to go with it as well like the walls and the wisemen.
I got my first Precious Moments figurines in the 70's as gifts during a hospitalization. They are truly special and very well made. My favorite part of each figurine is the little saying written on the base. They match the figure perfectly and always inspire and make you smile.
Precious Moments are just soooo adorable. I have a couple of nieces who have been collecting them since they were born. Obviously it was not their choice at birth, but the collections have grown on them (they are both pre-teens) and they frequently request them as gifts when asked what they would like.
My sister collects Precious Moments and I have a few pieces myself. They are very beautiful.
