Having owned at least two of the next generation of gaming consoles (the nintendo Wii and the sony PS3) I can say that while the Wii is tons of fun with a group of family members it doesn't stand up to the single player capabilities as much as the PS3. Also, the PS3 has the added bonus of playing blu-ray's which is a huge plus. Being a Madden fan I can say that from playing it on every previous generation system that this is by far the most challenging to date due to the advanced processing power of the cell processor in the PS3. The Playstation 3 has the advantage over the Xbox 360 even since it has very few hardware failures where as the 360 is known for them. The big advantage for the 360 was XBOX LIVE, as you see I said "was" as it may still trump the PSN (Playstation Network) the gap is closing. So gaming and movies come into one on the PS3.
