Reviewing: Proctor And Gamble Pur Fm 5050 C 3 Stage Horizontal Mount
Purchased at: Walmart     Price: $49.00 USD

The Wife and I weighed up the pro's and con's of buying the PUR FM-5050C 3 Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount with Flavored Cartridge. We were buying bottled water on a weekly basis and worked out that in less than a year the filter would pay for itself and being quite a green family it would help the enviroment at the same time with less plastic waste. The filter claims to get rid of 99% of all contaminents which is a good thing with all the pharmaceuticals in tap water.

The installation is easy, it just screws on to your existing standard faucet - the package also contains faucet adapters just in case your faucet isn't standard. It should fit most faucets but not all.

The Pro's of the Pur filter - Easy installation, The water taste's great, you can tell the difference from tap water to the filtered water. The kids love the flavorings which encourages them to drink more water. The filter has an indicator which tells you when the filter needs changing and changing the filter is easy too. The filter has a knob which you can change from tap water to filtered water easily.

The Cons - Looks like solid metal but is actually plastic which is the PUR filters downfall. The faucet mount crack at the faucet Joint over time causing leaks. Our first PUR filter didnt last a year, luckily I found replacement parts from a cheaper model which was compatible and was able to fix the problem..but I have noticed the second one is now starting to show small cracks in the same spot as last time. I have not over tightened the mount on the faucet its just a weak point of the mount..and with kids it gets a bit of hammer. After some research I have found many complaints about this problem.

The mount is a bit bulky, but thats not too much of a problem.

The flavorings don't last long which is not really a con its just the kids getting through it quickly which is a good thing in a way as they are drinking more water but at $10 a bottle can prove expensive.

The little rubber seals don't like hot water and over time will leak..Only use the filter with cold water.

All in all I'll say I am quite happy with the purchase, but they have to do something about the weakness of the mount as that is its major problem..fix that and there on to a winner.

We have the built in filter with our fridge but I don't know how well that stacks up against PUR. I know a lot of people who have these filters on their sinks, and water where I live really is not healthy.

I wouldnt think the water here is that healthy either, there's a company fairly close to us that uses some really nasty chemicals. Many years ago they weren't to bothered about them seeping into the ground, site has been cleaned up since..but you'll never fully get rid of the stuff and to this day the workers arent allowed to drink the tap water there.

This is a very interesting product. I think I want one for my kitchen. But, what is the flavouring feature all about? How does that work? Thanks.

You can purchase 5 different flavors. Grape, lemon, raspberry, strawberry or peach. The cartridge which goes in the front of the mount (easy fit) is meant to last 75 servings...not with my kids! All you do to add a serving is push the black button on top of the mount and it adds your flavoring to your glass of filtered water.
