Radeon Hd3870 By mdonaghey075 on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

I bought this card not long after its launch in February 2008, and for the price it is simply a magnificent card no doubt about it.

The card can run any game I have come across seemlessly with high frame rates. It was a huge step up from my prior card (7300 le. I have ran crysis up full, bioshock up full with hy resoltutions on my HDTV with no problem maintiaing around 30 frames per second as a minimum.

The card has two dvi outputs and an s-video output to run hd component from, the outputs on this card are great as it allows for dvi, vga through an adapter and hd component out. The only way the outputs culd be improved upon would be if there was a hdmi output.

The card runs relativly quiet and produces very little sound

The only downsound i have found to this card is that it has a tendancy to run very hot and crash over a period of time, whilst playing world of warcraft i hit around 120 degrees celcius. This is abnormal and dangerous as regards likelyhood of the card lasting a long period of time.

I decided to push the card to its limits and it hit 14 degrees which then caused my computer to crash and turn off.

I wqould give this card an 8/10 the only reason it has lost 2 marks was due to the card overheating, but this can be solved by adding third party coolers to the card such as the thermaltake du-orb.
