This Radio Shack Scanner is wonderful in all of it's uses. It scanners for weather updates, National Weather Service Statements, Amber Alerts, and police, fire, and ambulance transmissions.
There are many buttons and knobs on this scanner which is good and bad. Good in that there are many different searching options and clarification tweaks. Bad in that it does take some time to get used to using it properly. The manual explains how to use the scanner, but you still need to practice to get what you are looking for.
I mainly use this scanner when the weather gets bad and I need to stay connected when the T.V. satellite is out. Although it is fun to listen to the police transmissions when they are on a hot lead! The scanner does take up a bit of counter space, so I don't suggest putting it in a small space. Otherwise, this is a great scanner to have in any emergency situation.

Great idea! When my cable and radio go out for some catastrophic reason, this should work!!
