Rain Poncho By dsnygrl on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

When we go to theme parks or outdoor activities like concerts or sporting events, I like to bring along something to keep us dry incase of a sudden rain storm. I am not a big carry an umbrella around type of person and I like to keep it small and simple so I purchase these plastic rain ponchos from the dollar store and they are perfect.

They come 2 to a pack and are big and roomy so they fit just about any adult. To help them fit my son who is little or be a little more snug on my daughter and myself, we tie some simple knots in them. These are not fancy by any means folks and that is one of the things I like most about them. I have no guilt what so ever that I wasted money when we wear them for just a few minutes and then toss them out.

They are bright yellow so they make it easy to stay together in a crowd. They are thin and you can see through them which comes in handy when the hood is on and you are trying to see things that are to the side of you. They come down to about the knee area and have 3/4 length sleeves.

I keep set of these in each car in case of an emergency and always get a few to take with us when we go to the theme parks. The price to purchase rain ponchos at the parks, even plastic ones, is crazy. They are folded small so they take up very little room in a backpack and if your pockets were large enough, you could even squeeze them in there. When we go to the parks, I bring along a gallon size storage bag and when we take them off and might have to put them on again, we fold them up and stick them in the bag. This helps to keep everything else in our pack dry. When we know we are done with them for the day, we simply toss them in the trash.

Keep a few of these on hand, you never know when you might need them, really it's worth it for a few dollars. We tried to find some to take with us on vacation recently and went to several Dollar Trees looking for them. It had been raining here for over a week and every store was sold out. On our trip, it poured on us during one of our tours and these would have been perfect to have along. Next time I see them in stock, I am buying a few just in case.

Update Posted on :

We went to the Dollar store to pick some of these up for my daughters recent trip to Disney and noticed they have changed the packaging on them. You still get 2 to the pack for the dollar but now one of them is a clar one and one is a yellow one.

A one time use, but for the price that works for me.

Great idea to take these along and for such a great price. Very handy that they are packaged so they fit easily in a backpack or even pockets.

What a great idea to take a storage bag to put them in for later. We were just discussing where to find ponchos for Disney on Sunday. I have to go and buy a few of these because at the Disney parks they are ridiculously priced! Too bad they don't make them smaller for kids.

I was going to say the same thing Tink said-this would be perfect for theme parks without spending an arm & a leg!!!

I have used them too. They are much lighter to carry than an umbrella.

Sounds like you have the whole theme park preparedness down to a fine science! What a great idea! LIttle things mean a lot!

I usually prefer to just stick with an umbrella.

The dollar store is a great idea for purchasing ponchos! They are always good to have in the trunk of the car.
