Red Hot Chili Peppers Californication By nightwing on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

With Californication, The Red Hot Chili Peppers really came into their own. With a newly sober John Frusciante rejoining the band, they really gelled and brought a sense of maturity to their music that they had previously only dabbled with. It all comes together here. The cover art and the songs match the great performances brought forth by the band.

There are 15 tracks on the disc and almost all of them are great. Highlights include the songs Scar Tissue, Californication, and Road Trippin'. My one complaint with the disc would be that the maturity found in the majority of the songs makes the more fun songs where they let loose, like I Like Dirt and Purple Stain, seem somewhat out of place and a step backward.

The disc was a huge worldwide success and really brought the band to a new level following their previous CD, the uneven One Hot Minute which featured Dave Navarro. If you are going to own one Red Hot Chili Peppers, this is the one.
