Refurbished Computers Can Be a Nightmare

Reviewing: Dell Xps Generation 2 Desktop
Purchased at: E Bay     Price: $400.00 USD

Having an older computer I felt is was time to upgrade. Being very thrifty I started looking for a refurbished computer. I found a refurbished Dell XPS Generation 2 Desktop. At first I was very happy with the speed. The system included a Pentium 3.4GH processor and 2 gig of ram 80gb hard drive, Nvidia GeForce FX5200, and a Sound Blaster Audigy. It was a vast improvement over my old Dell.

I can truly say that when this computer was working it was great but now I have a large paper weight. After a few days strange problems started showing up. Sound cutting in and out along with strange crashes and weird error messages started to appear,

I would like to caution everyone that if you buy a refurbished computer to be sure to check everything out. Make sure every button switch door light works as it should. If the machine does not work as it should, then contact the seller straight away. Any reputable seller that stands behind their product will work to make things right. There are also 3rd party warranties that I would recommend you look into, such as Square Trade.

Thanks for the warning. I have always wondered if rehabs were worth getting.

Mine is refurbished ten times over, lol. The third party warranty was a great suggestion!:)

I got a cheapo refurb laptop. It isn't much but I knew what I was getting when I bought it, so no surprises. The fewer bells and whistles the less that can go wrong.

This is good information to know. Many people buy refurbished computers and do not realize just how much of a problem it can be. I have never been brave enough to try it myself. I always buy new when it comes to a computer. I just don't like to take chances on such an important item in my work. Thanks for sharing this information.

Thanks for all the information. I never would have thought about problems with a refurbished computer, as I have bought refurbished game systems for my son with no problems. Thanks for the heads up!
