I have very light skin and if I were to spend much time in the sun, I would burn. Since my Dad got skin cancer on his hands and neck (from being exposed while golfing) I am insane about staying protected! That brings me to my REI Sahara Outback Hat. this is a great little hat which I actually own three of! I keep one in the car, one on the boat and the other I use while gardening.
Why Choose the Sahara Outback Hat?
The Sahara outback hat has a nice size (3.5 inches) brim to keep the sun off my face and neck and provides a UPF 30+ rating against UV damage. The main part of the hat is made out of nylon material with a firmer headband and a drawstring. Actually the drawstring was one thing I didn't think I'd use but it came in handy when we went jet-skiing!
The hat is very light and can be easily tucked into a backpack, glove box or purse. It not only protects me from the sun but works great in a light rain as well. It seems to hold it's shape after getting wet but I don't think 'd use it as a rain hat.
It only comes in two color combinations: khaki/pinecone and tank/raffia which are fine since I'm not really trying to match them with my outfits! I would like a navy option though LOL

This hat is totally awesome Pogo. I love the way it looks! REI has some smashing good things for the outdoors, and this definitely is one of them.
