When we purchased our house it had a Canadian made wood burning stove from Powrmatic in the recreation room. In the winter time, it is a very rommantic atmosphere wood burning stove with its 24 by 9 inch window to see the flames. I find a real wood burning stove very differnt than gas powered or other simulations. It is also a backup heat should we lose power to the house furnace. It uses 18 inch logs and is medium on the heat efficeincy scale. It is side loading and has place on top if you wanted to use it for cooking though we never have. It has a chimney pipe throught the garage and vented out our roof. They had placed a brick floor all the way around the stove with a wood firewwod box. Since we got the house and stove I have learned much more about wood burning stoves. If I were to have a house built from scratch, I would have a wood burning stove installed but a more modern and efficent model. We are probably overdue for maintenance from a chimney cleaner.
