In the Land of Women

I watched  the movie In The Land Of Women a few days ago, which is out on dvd now. I was a little bit disappointed in this film. The movie stars Adam Brody (from tv's The O.C.), Meg Ryan and Kristen Stewart. Carter (Brody) is a hollywood porn writer in his twenties, who is dumped by his model girlfriend. With a broken heart and the hope of writing a real book, he goes to Michigan to look after his grandmother (played by Olympia Dukakis). Here he befriends the neighbors- Meg Ryan's character and her two daughters. The movie in my opinion never really got into the characters feelings as deeply as it needed to. Ryan's character is struggling with breast cancer and is in a bad marriage. Her teen daughter (Stewart) is angry with her. And the script never  really gives  a good enough explanation about why she is. She's angry even before her mom becomes ill, so it's not the classic "I'm mad because yoy might die". The script just sort of floats around and I guess the end message is that the end of one chapter in life is just the beginning of the next. The story line could have been less vague and it didn't hold my attention very well.
