Sailing to Alaska on the Mercury

My husband and I took an amazing Alaskan cruise on the Mercury, a ship in the Celebrity Cruise line. It sailed roundtrip from Canada Place in Vancouver, B.C. and visited three ports: Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. We had been to all three of the ports before, so we spent most of our Port time walking around on our own. We did catch the Lumberjack show in Ketchikan which was a lot of fun.

The Mercury is a beautiful ship with an attentive crew. There are activities going on throughout the day from movies to trivia and bingo games, to lectures to culinary demonstrations. Then at night there was always some kind of entertainment scheduled in the main theater. Sadly, the entertainment wasn't very good. We really enjoyed the comedian but the ship productions were no better than most high schools could put on! They do have a Casino, with a small non-smoking area as well as multiple locations where we were able to listen to live music.

The Mercury has traditional dinning which means we ate at the same time, same table every night. We were lucky to get a table for just the two of us and a great set of waiters. Breakfast and lunch are open seating where we could sit at a small table alone, or join a large table of our fellow cruisers. They also had a buffet which was open for breakfast and lunch but for some odd reason, not for dinner. If you were looking for something quick, there was a pizza/pasta bar, a grill out by the pool and of course 24 hour room service.

We had a wonderful, relaxing time and would sail the Mercury again!

  1. We took an Alaskan cruise with a different company. I saw a Celebrity ship and it looked awesome! Too bad about the entertainment. That was one of the best things on our ship.
