The Prius is a great car. It's got all the comforts of modern luxury cars - particularly with the option to include a built-in navigation system - without the cost OR damage to the environment. My favorite things about the Prius include: super quiet operation, very comfortable to sit in and drive, hands free keyless entry system, and only having to get gas every 2 weeks or so. However, there are a few things about the Prius that I'm not crazy about, including: the design of the car (its shape is designed to be aerodynamic but actually creates larger blindspots than most cards have), and the fact that the mileage is nowhere near the advertised rate. While the car is supposed to get an AVERAGE of 60 miles per gallon in the city and 51 on the freeway. I typically get 40 mpg on long freeway drives and only 30 miles per gallon in the city.
Did you know that all revenue a review earns monthly is split with the voters that voted for that review each month?
Great review! (voted)
Hypermiling is the only way to get in the 60's ... and then you have someone barreling up your tailpipe. :/ I like what it's done for the hybrid market though.
Yes! Thank you for input on the mileage being false since that is their hugest selling point. (voted)
Thanks for your review. Especially, regarding the mileage. Voted for you.
I was excited to see that you loved this car...only to see you said it has big blind spots. Not a good design. I think we need to call someone! The mileage should be as advertised...but it never seems to be the fact. Hopefully you are finding more pros than cons on your new hybrid car.
That really stinks about the blind spots. I do hope that they can improve that in later models. Very nicely written.
Great review...the MPG isn't that much better than a Corolla and a Civic, but if you want less emissions this may be it for you!
Wow, that mileage must be disappointing to you. I appreciate your honesty, because I have been leaning toward the Prius. Could it have anything to do with your driving style, do you think? My husband gets better mileage in the same car than I do because he is more conservative with the gas pedal! These days, I'm trying to retrain myself to drive efficiently.
That's too bad about the mileage. Sort of defeats the purpose, right?
Thx for the review. I took this for a test drive weeks ago. I contemplated over this or the Aura. The one thing that kept this in my mind was the gas mileage. Glad I chose the Aura now. :-)
Sounds like you're not completely pleased with your car, but hopefully, you can still enjoy the various features that are available. Thank you for the information. Good review.
I would have been quite mad especially if that was the reason that I was getting a new car. I have never test drove one, but I think the blindspots would drive me crazy. Thanks for the review!
Sorry to hear about the gas mileage! What a disappointment! Perhaps it will improve?
Wow-I would have never thought about the way the car is designed that it would make for larger blindspots-that's an excellent point that you brought up!
I haven't heard about the blind spots. Coupled with the less-than-advertised mpg (and the long waiting lists!), I think many people will go for compact car alternatives. Thanks for the info!
Thanks for sharing!
I keep hearing about the prius not sure what to think
I would have thought more than 30mpg... thanks for the info!
Sorry to hear that it does not get as good gas mileage as they say it will Great review!
