Toyota Prius-save money at the pump

My Experiences:

We bought this car for our son to drive back and forth to school.  We wanted something that was reliable and fuel efficient--and we got both.  He drives it everyday and is getting between 50 and 55 mpg.  He would get better mileage if he drove only in town, but since we live in burbs he has 20 miles on the highway, which cuts down on the mileage.  That said, the Prius is different from every other car you have ever heard about.  It gets its best mileage in the stop and go traffic of city driving.  I don't really understand it all, but it works!  For a car that looks so small on the outside it is very roomy on the inside.  My husband is 6'5" and he is comfortable driving it.  It has loads of cargo space, including some hidden space in the back for things that you don't want everyone in town to see---like Christmas presents when you are on a big shopping trip.  It has climate control, a really nice sound system and available GPS navigation system, which I have used on several occasions because I am geographically impared.  It is a little pricy, but the insurance on it has been reasonable so far, my son puts around $20.00 in gas into it every two weeks and it is good for the environment.  The biggest complaint we have had so far is the tires that came on it.  They did not last nearly as long as we think they should have  and when a small car costs $32,000 it should come with the best tires.  All in all, we are very pleased with our purchase and hopefully it will get our son back and forth  until he graduates.

  13. The Prius is a nice car. My parents have one and love it. Nicely detailed and specific review. BTW - OEM tires never get the miles we expect. Be careful replacing those tires. Tires will make a difference in your fuel efficiency - hybrid or not. [I used to work in the tire industry]

  17. I have always liked the Prius and the fact that is a hybrid. I liked that they updated the look since it was first introduced. I put more than $20.00 a week in my car and only go to the grocery store and the bus stop, think of all the money he is saving.

  22. I am shocked that a 6'5" male would fit comfortably in this vehicle. I can't picture someone my dad's height being comfortable, but I will take yuor word for it. You can't go wrong with hybrids when the gas is so expensive. Itpays off in the end. I voted!

  23. My parents rented one of these cars, and I went with them on an 8 hour trip. I'm 6' 2" and I was definitely quite comfortable when I sat in the front seat. The only problem I had was when I was in the back seat. When I sat up straight, I found the head room to be a little bit lacking. The slope of the ceiling forced me to slouch in order to avoid hitting my head on the roof. Other than that, I really liked it. Thanks for all of the great information.

  25. I've been wanting one of these, convinced they are worth the initial investment. It sounds like it is the complete package, great gas milage, terrific cargo space, a nice ride. Terrific review, voted!

  26. This sounds like a great first time car for a student. Not only does it get super gas mileage but it is als oroomy enough for tall persons like your husband. I we paid only $20 every two weeks for gas. We have a big van and if you put in $20 of gas, the gas arrow hardly moves at all. It is also great that is has so many nice amenities such as climate control a GPS system, and a good sound system but for the price one would think that the tires would also be quality. I am sad to hear that they are not and did not last long. Overall this sounds like a great car! You provided an excellent review full of details. Nice job!
