Playstation 2: Long Lived, but Time's Up

The Playstation 2 in many ways reminds me of the Super Nintendo. It dominated console game for nearly a decade. It's library is huge and diverse, containing many titles that are crap but also many that are true gems which hopefully will be preserved for later generations. Added to its extensive game selection is the ability to play PS1 Games and DVDs, two things which further make this system an amazing buy. Or, rather, did make this system an amazing buy. Simply, while it is still a very economical choice for an excellent gaming system, new Ps2 games will likely not be seen after 2008 and both new and used games are going to be harder and harder to find (though also cheaper, with the exception of the most popular titles, which may even grow more expensive). With the playstation 3 able to play Ps2 games and having next generation capabilities, it is probably best to avoid buying one of these at this point and to just save up the extra cash for the more advanced system.
