Belinda Carlisle CD - Runaway Horse

Runaway Horses is Belinda's follow up to her enormously successful Heaven on Earth disc. This album sticks fairly close to the pattern of that disc. We have a group of songs here featuring the same slickly produced sound. The anthem sounding chorus really becomes a staple to her songs with this album. While less satisfying than her previous disc, this is still a good album.

Leave a Light On is the best up tempo song on the album, and the only hit single. It's got the great bouncy feel of her Heaven on Earth song, without some of the sappiness that song had. She even has Beatle George Harrison and his guitar helping her out on this song.

Summer Rain is a beautiful ballad and one of her strongest songs. She does a fantastic job on this song of really communicating a feeling to the listener. At times I feel like I can imagine her smiling while singing the song.

The title track and (We Want) The Same Thing are good songs, but they are a bit generic in their sound. While this is a good disc, it does suffer from sounding too much like her previous one. I would have preferred her to take a few more chances on the disc and expand her range.
