Verizon RAZR: All it's cracked up to be?

Although the Verizon RAZR may be old news now, almost everywhere I go, I always catch a glimpse of SOMEONE with the phone. It's my second cell phone, and it has some good points and some bad points. Just so you know, I've got the V3m with Verizon service and firmware.

The RAZR is known for its small and pocket-friendly size, which doesn't disappoint at all. It is a very stylish phone, available in pink or silver. The outer shell is also very durable, as I have dropped mine numerous times, and aside from a few dents and scratches, it still works perfectly. The phone's display is bright and allows for great visibility in all types of light. The battery life is a mixed bag. If you're in an area with great service, you're going to have a battery that lasts for a LONG time. On the other hand, if you happen to live in the boonies, you're going to have to pull out that charger a lot.

In the technical department, Verizon's RAZR is seriously lacking. I managed to grab one of my friends's RAZRs, which happens to be on the Alltel network. I compared the two extensively and I found the Alltel version to be much better. Compared to the Alltel model, Verizon's call quality seemed poorer and the reception seemed to be weaker. Another gripe that I had was the fact that Verizon has added its own software which practically removes many of the features that the phone originally had. You can no longer transfer music and pictures to the phone freely, instead you must do so over Verizon's network, which costs money found through various fees. The Verizon software also takes much longer to move from screen to screen. While the Alltel phone moved nearly instantly to the next screen, it took over FOUR SECONDS for me to view my inbox from the TXT Messaging screen.

So overall, if you're looking for a phone that you can use as just a phone, the Verizon RAZR would be great for you. If you're looking for a full multimedia device, look for a different phone, as with the Verizon RAZR, you'll be quite disappointed.
