My Experiences:

We were in the market for a new and larger van for our family of four. I had my eyes on a Chevrolet Suburban so off to the nearest Chevrolet dealer we headed. The salesman led us to a Suburban. I got into the front seat and was disappointed to find out that I had no room for my long legs. We also looked into the second row and back row seats where once again we were disappointed as there was not enough leg room for our children who are all very tall.

While at the Chevrolet dealer, we decided to look at the conversion vans. The very first one we stepped into won our hearts. It was perfect for our family of six. There was plenty of leg room for everyone and then some. Both the front and second row seats have comfortable high seats. The very back seat can be made into a bed and there is plenty of trunk area space.

The van is available in four models: an 8 passenger 1500 RWD or AWD, as well as a 12 passenger 3500 regular or extended wheel base. Engine choices include a 4.3L. V6, a 295 hp 5.3L V8, or a 6.0 L V8 making 300hp. The four speed automatic transmission completes the powertrain.

Standard equipment includes ABC brakes, an oil life monitor, folding review mirrors, swing out rear doors, stainless steel exhaust system, and an AC. You can upgrade with trailer equipment. The seats are a very durable velour which has been easy to clean. Except for a couple of areas, the interior looks as good as it did when we first bought it. I did make rugs to cover the rubber mats. They have saved wear and tear greatly.

We have taken many trips in our van and have had no problems. Our second son uses the van to transport all of his gear when playing with his band and when he goes camping with his buddies. It is also great when you want to haul wood or large purchases such as those antiques one finds when going on a Sunday drive through the country.

I cannot say enough about our Chevrolet conversion van. It has worked out very well for our family. We get about 24-25mpg which can add up but everything about this van makes it worth it. Our van is now ten years old and knock on wood, still going good. I believe that we will probably get another van like this when we need a new one. I highly recommend these vans to all.

  10. Sounds like you really got your money's worth on the van. My hubbt has always wanted a Conversion Van he could go on trips with, sounds like this is just what he is looking for. Terrific review, voted.

  11. I have an older Chery conversion van too. I love it, but the gas mileage is not that great.

  15. Wow...seems like pretty reasonable gas mileage. Sometimes age on a vehicle makes it wonderful i used to drive an older model car and it still rocked! I voted!

  17. Geri with 6 in the family and you with long legs, this Chevy Conversion is really perfect. Given you can ride in comfort and haul lots of groceries when shopping, this more than offsets higher fuel costs.

  18. Wow! That sounds like some great gas mileage for a van that large. I always thought that vans like that got well below 20 mpg. Thanks for the information!

  20. We used to own a conversion van. It was a really nice one with all the bells and whistles you could think of. We drove it for 14 years and it was just starting to break down with little repairs needed here and there. It was a great van for our family. Lots of room just like you have described. I hope you have many enjoyable rides in your special van!
