2006 Toyota RAV 4: Best Bang For Buck!

My Experiences:

I hated trading in my Honda Odyssey. Wasn't something I wanted to do, but we needed to downsize our vehicle for one that would get us to California from South Carolina. So we broke the financial rule of "don't ever buy a new vehicle" and bought a 2006 Toyota RAV4.

Even though I was reluctant, I am happy with the vehicle. We got the standard version with a few options like the 6 CD MP3 player stereo. I love it b/c it has an auto volume leveler that goes up if you go faster.

My other favorite feature is the limited breaking system thingy. Basically if you are driving in rough conditions, you can push a button that forces your wheels to compensate for loss of traction. So if your right wheel starts to spin out from a puddle or snow, your other wheels will compensate. It is a nice safety feature!

Driving is easy. The only hiccup I have is that with the automatic V-4 VTEC engine there can be a little catch between first and second gear if you accelerate too fast. There will be a small lag and then a little jump. Be careful coming out of first gear! Other than that, there is plenty of leg room and adjustability in the 2006 RAV 4.

There is plenty of room in this model, too. If you get a 2005 RAV 4, it is perfect for that college kid with a few bags. The 2006 has more room in the back which is good since we had two children that had just moved out of car seats.

We were able to travel cross country with more than enough room. The storage rack on top helped out, too! And even underneath the floor of the cargo space is- more cargo space!

If you choose to get a RAV4, I recommend the 2006. I have looked inside the 2007 and 2008 and they are almost exactly the same vehicle. Why pay more for the same car?  Just get the 2006. It isn't an overwhelming SUV and it gets 25 mpg.

  1. Sounds like a user friendly stylish family car. I've heard good things about the RAV from friends who own them.

  2. I like the outer looks of the RAV but the inside was a bit too cramped. I am glad to here that the 2006 and up added some more space in there!
