Black and Decker Grasshog

Share and Enjoy:

We live under a Home Owner's Association now, so when we got the letter in the mail informing us that we needed to trim our weeds, we realized we weren't going to get away with letting our yard look a bit "shaggy" anymore.  What can I say?  We both despise yardwork and we are from North Dakota living in Texas where it's too hot to go outside so we never see our yard.  We had a mower, so we just needed a weed trimmer.  The cheapest one in the store was out of stock, so we got the cheapest that they had in stock - the Black and Decker Grasshog.

Well, I procrastinated getting out there and doing anything until the date on the letter.  If I hadn't done it that day, they would send someone out and charge me an insane fee.  This is an electric weed trimmer, so I got out our 100' cord.  We have an itty bitty yard (did I mention we never go out?) so this would be plenty long enough.  The handle is adjustable to a certain extent, so you can set it where it is most comfortable for you to hold.  Then, one push of the button and the weeds are flying.

Now, if I had a yard any bigger than this, or if I actually cared about doing it perfect, I would choose a cordless.  The cord does get in the way and it can come unplugged when you are cruising along, or when you get on the wrong side of a tree and try to yank on it.  Sometimes, the weed eating string gets tangled up inside as well, but the string container is easy to remove and a quick unwinding is all it takes to get it going again.

For the money I paid, it does a great job.  I can trim my entire yard around the house, walks and fence in less than 30 min.  I also use it as a sidewalk edger - the handle flips around to make it easy to use for this purpose.

I recommend this for someone that has a small yard and just needs to do the minimum to keep the association from charging them obscene amounts of money for a little trimming.

  9. LOL - I'm from the South and fully believe you are supposed to stay IN the house in the summer! Not outside doing yardwork (unless it's early in the AM) glad you found something to get the job done quickly

  10. $40.00 for a Weed Whacker seems like a pretty good deal.

  11. Interesting review. If you can do it all in 30 minutes it's not going to be too much effort to stay weed-free.

  14. I think that its excellent that you can do the entire yard in such a short period of time. This surely makes it worth all the money that you spend for this type of outdoor equipment. I might have to look into getting one of these. Great review.

  15. I wonder if city governments get a mower/trimmer kick back when they give out those notices. Great review!

  16. God save us all from HOA's! I despise them. Black and Decker weedeaters work very very well. I have a huge yard and it gets weedy fast. You are right. We can weed eat the entire lot in under an hour.
