My Experiences:

I have been collecting Hummels since I was first married and I received my very first piece from my mother.  Every few years my husband and I add a piece.   It can be a small sculpture costing very little or something very special.

These 2 Hummel/Disney pieces are the favorite of our collection and we feel each piece represents one of us.   To find a Disney sculpture as a duplicate of a Hummel figurine was the best of two collections.

Hummel figurines are the inspiration of a famous German artist best known as Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel.  Her artwork became the inspiration for the now famous Hummel sculptures.  The first piece came out in 1935 but sadly she passed away in 1946 at the young age of 37 from tuberculosis.  The other nuns  and the Goebel company carried on the legacy of her paintings through the beautiful figurines which are still so popular today.

Our first purchase was Minnie Mouse and Hummel Girl Sculpture entitled "Be Patient".   It was introduced in September of 1994 at the Disneyana Convention and limited to an edition of 1500, of which this is number 8.  The artist is Marion Huschka for Goebel and I was so fortunate to have her and another artist present when purchasing this in Germany at Epcot and sign the Hummel piece for me.

We purchased our second piece the following year with Mickey and Hummel Boy entitled "For Father".  This piece was introduced in February of 1995 and is a 1995 Disneyana Convention Limited Edition of 1500, of which this is number 721.  The artist is also Marion Huschka for Goebel and again she was present to sign it when I was back at the German store in Epcot.

Be Paitient represents me, something my husband is always telling me.  For Father was a perfect match for my husband with the little beer stein in his hand full of his favorite beer.  Each set has a black wooden base which the figurines sit into and each has a plaque on the front with the title of the Hummel piece.

To me looking at a Hummel figurine is like looking into the face of an innocent child, so magical and unaware of their beauty.  Goebel has done a fantastic job in creating these sculptures to show the love that Sister Maria had for children and her art.  The detail and painting is unlike any other collection I have the pleasure to own.

The Goebel company has been in business for over 70 years and each piece they produce is handmade by highly trained and experienced craftsmen.  You only have to visit Germany in Epcot or any fine store that sells Hummels to know you are buying quality.

  7. These are so cute! I had no idea there were Disney Hummel figurines. They are out of my price range, but I am very interested in learning more about the collection. And how wonderful to have the artist sign the sculptures for you!
