Our Perfect Wedding Cake

I'm sure you know, or are finding out, just how stressful wedding preparations can be.  Luckly for me, finding the right cake was not one of them!  I was so fortunate to find Denyse, and her little shop, Denyse's Specialties, which made the entire process a real treat!  Here's my experience:

First, here are a couple pictures of my cake.  It has two round layers and one square one, a twist on the typical tiered cake.  It may be hard to see, but around the bottom of each layer is an intricate twisted rope border.  The bow, leaves, and all the little sunflowers are handmade from sugar paste.

The design is my own creation, of sorts.  Denyse keeps several albums of all the cakes she has done, so the shape of the cake was something I had seen there.  The roped design was something I had seen in a magazine. The colours were matched perfectly to fabric swatches of my bridesmaid's dresses.  And the large bow came about when I said, "it needs more colour...like maybe a bow or something..."  Denyse drew it all out for me in a sketchbook, and I loved the result!

Denyse's Specialties is a small, family-owed operation in the town of Springfield, just outside of London, Ontario.  Owner Denyse and her mother design and create each and every cake by hand, down to the tiniest details--and details are what they do best!  All flowers and other embellishments are hand-made.  Some of the cakes are literally hand-painted.  And of course, they do novelty cakes too.  I had to laugh at one picture I saw of two cakes, side-by-side, exact replica's of the bride and groom with all the proper clothing details.

Ok, now some technical details.

Cake flavours are vanilla, chocolate fudge, lemon, raspberry, butter pecan, carrot and fruitcake.  I chose a different flavour for each layer to help please all my guests, and as far as I know, it did just that.  The cake is the perfect texture, and the fondant is smooth and delicious, but not too sweet.

They do delivery and set up when you purchase one of their cakes.

And finally, they have all the right presentation supplies for you to rent, if you wish. They have special tables, stands, mini-lights, and shimmery fabrics to make sure your creation gets all the attention it deserves.

As you can see, the whole process was a delight.  These women love what they do, and make every cake as unique as the bride herself.  I highly recommed Denyse's Specialties!

Our first anniversary was this week, and my mom surprised me by bringing the top layer of our cake... I thought it had all been eaten at the wedding.  So now I can vouch for how well these cakes keep in the freezer... it was still moist and delightfully delicious! :)

  7. It's funny how wedding cakes always taste better than any other kind of cake; maybe it's all the extra love that goes into them, from design to the actual eating! Yours is beautiful, and it sounds like it tastes just as good as it looks!
