My Experiences:
The Toledo Zoo is one of the best zoos in the country. This is not just my opinion, but it is a title that the local zoo gets to have attached to it yearly.
Our Zoo is huge, and definitely a destination to check out. When you first arrive, you will find a large store (skip it) and save it for the way out! The newest part of the zoo is on the side you park on, you can see wolves, polar bears and my favorite: The African Safari. Here you will see a large amount of elephants, giraffes, zebras and all sorts of uniquely African animals to enjoy. There is a landing to look over, but I defiantly recommend the train ride around the safari. It is $2.00 but well worth the money!
Across the large bridge going over the highway, you will find the rest of the zoo, which is laid out very well and easy to maneuver around in. Personally, my first choice would be to check out the aquarium, it is one of the oldest pieces of the zoo an has a great classic look to it. The large brick building is well stocked with a variety of fish.
The other exhibit I would recommend as a cannot miss at the Toledo Zoo is the hippoquarium. There you will see two large hippos, hanging out in their large water tank, basking in the Ohio sun. The kids love it, and adults do as well. They are constantly swimming and playing around in the water, and it is always a good time.
Overall, this Zoo is a gem in Northwest Ohio. It is worth the trip to the area, and a destination that will delight both young and old. Make sure you get there early and avoid any of the lines that grow in the later hours of the park.

The hippoquarium sounds really interesting. I've seen hippos at one zoo (I think the National Zoo) and really enjoyed them.

I agree Toledo Zoo is awesome! We like to goto different zoos and compare. If you ever get a chance check out Indianapolis zoo, last year they had a shark petting exhibit. The kids loved it!
