This Santa is One of a Kind

As you all might know I am Dutch and collect anything that is a Dutch Santa, Sinterklaas or St. Nicholas.  Everywhere I go I am on the lookout for a new and interestesting yet affordable item to add to my collection.

Last fall when all the craft shows started I was walking through one of the popular craft shows in my area and was really dissapointed in everything until I came to the last room and found this retired artist who hand carves all types of statues and figurines.

In his hand was this Sinterklaas statue that he was getting ready to put out when I practically pounced on him and yelled that I wanted it, it was beautiful, cost was no object and on and on.  He probably thought I was nuts!

Mr. Terry Brown handcarves these from one piece of wood and then his wife meticulously paints the statues.  The detail is amazing and each piece is handsigned and dated with the year.  This statue is very light and has a place of honor in my collection as there will not be another like it.  I have since ordered 3 more and not one looks anything like the other.

Mr Brown does these while wintering in Florida and then sells them at craft shows or repeat customers like me.  He is very talented and I look forward to seeing what he will do next.  I tried to get as close as I could in the pictures so you could see the detail in the wood carving.

It's always Christmas at my house!

  10. I know sinterklaas well, I live in The netherlands (although I am Dublin born and bred), and as we now have an 18 month old, my husband (who is dutch) is looking forward to peper noten and surprise avond and all the zwarte piets, and showing them to our daughter!
