Catalonia Royal Tulum aka Heaven On Earth

This was our third annual trip to Mexico. We always go with friends, another couple. This year, we had actually booked at another resort, and a week before we left we were notified that our resort had a fire. We were moved to the Catalonia Royal Tulum. It turned out to be such a blessing! This was our favorite resort yet, by far! The whole place was beautiful and immaculate. The employees were always cleaning. In fact one morning I saw a guy polishing the chrome on the beach area shower.

The rooms were spacious and clean and the bathrooms had huge beautiful showers. Each room had a safe and a refrigerator stocked with water bottles, soda and beer. The maids did a great job and even left us some towel art. We would leave a note asking for more water, or whatever, and they always provided what we asked for. There were plenty of towels and toiletries. There was also a coffee maker in the room.

The pool was a huge, meandering thing with a pretty fountain in the center. It was gorgeous and always clean. They had tons of padded loungers with umbrellas. There was a bar beside the pool. Also near the pool was the hut where you could pick up your nice sized beach towels. No towel cards to deal with, which was nice!

The beach was located off of the pool area. The beach was beautiful. Plenty of chairs, no fighting for a spot. You could walk for a long way in either direction without running into any other major resorts- a huge plus in my book. The surf was a bit rough the first day, but after that just gentle waves. If you walked up the beach a bit, the water was calmer and we snorkled there. We brought our own snorkel gear, but you could rent it at the resort for a small fee. The Mayan Riviera has the second largest reef in the world, so the snorkeling is really good.

The restaurants were great. The main buffet is located by the main lobby. Breakfast and dinner are served there. The choices are varied and so good! One night they had t-bone steaks grilled to order. They were huge and my husband was extremely happy! He's a meat and potatoes guy. I love Mexican food. They always had choices to please us both. The lunch buffet was right off the beach, by the pool. It was wonderfulbecause you could see the beach from the open air buffet. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food, as it was an all inclusive.

Entertainment: The animation team was super! Young group of energetic people who work from early morning to late at night to make sure you enjoy yourself. The evening shows are fun and entertaining. There is a disco that is open after the nightly show. The bartenders do a great job and the drinks are good. They have top shelf liquor and all you have to do is ask for it!

We did not have a single complaint about the Catalonia Royal Tulum. We would go back in a heartbeat. We did hear while we were there that in October 2008, the resort will switch over to adults only. Hopefully, they will not change another thing about the resort because it was PERFECT!

  3. For an all inclusive you sure got your money's worth Naynay. I hope they don't change anything either. They certainly are on the right track there.
