In the second and last season of HBO's acclaimed series, Rome, the Republic stands on the brink of disaster. The storyline begins exactly where the first season ends - the death of Julias Caesar and the resulting chaos and attempted power-grabs. All the old characters are back as this new and even more grim chapter of Roman history unfolds. The seamless meshing of storylines that made the first season so intricately powerful is back. With perspectives ranging from powerful generals to lowly slaves, the viewer quickly becomes completely immersed into the complex Roman society. The the main rivalries now focus around Marc Antony, Brutus and Cassius, and the adopted heir of Julias Caesar - Augustus. As always of HBO series, the actors are top notch, the setting is insanely researched and crafted, and the storylines are twistedly spectacular to witness. Although I find the the first season more fun to rewatch as it tends to be less gloomy, this second season CANNOT be missed by anyone who has seen the first. Politics has never been so much fun.
