Romiette And Julio, By Sharon M. Draper By Apples on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

I have read a ton of books in the past, but I haven't read anything like this book...well, except for Romio and Juliet. Romiette and Julio is a fabulously written book by Sharon M. Draper, about the racial issues out there. In this book, a young Hispanic girl named Romiette Cappelle meets a young African-American boy named Julio Montague. They instantely fall in love, but not everyone approves of their relationship, because of their different races. This is especially applicable to the Devildogs, an extremely dangerous local gang. The Devildogs perform violent acts against them, hoping to teach them a lesson. Romiette and Julio are in danger, and come up with a plan to escape from the gang, but then something goes terribly wrong. Will they be able to escape? You'll have to read the book to find out.

I think this book does a great job showing the racil issues that still exist. People are trying to deny it, but it's still there. This book really made me want to do something about these issues, as it opened my eyes.
