Rush Hour 3 By Shulockabaulugy By shulockabaulugy on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
Though the first two films weren't groundbreaking, they were still amusing and great for "popcorn" watching. Like the later Lethal Weapon movies, RH3 shares many connections to its predecessors (same actors and characters, same director, similar plot...even the same musical themes!). Parts of Rush Hour 2 seemed like rehashes of the first movie, so if RH3 continued the trend, it might seem tired and even boring. Unfortunately, RH3 does feel derivative at times, with some scenes bordering on self-parody (how many times does Carter have to sing?) and others a bit on the uncomfortable side (the race jokes that were funny in the previous films are delivered with much less levity here). Thankfully, RH3 contains enough unique parts to make the experience interesting. The one element making the films work is the chemistry between Tucker and Chan, and it's clear they still enjoy working together. Tucker is still funny from time to time, and Chan's stuntwork is as great as it was before - it's just that after 6 years, fans moved on, and another Rush Hour seemed, well, pointless. The dvd at least offers great picture quality (in both full and wide screen)and strong audio, and may be worth a rental for fans of the previous films.
