Saliva's Every Six Seconds A Decent Effort By Dave on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Saliva first came into the mainstream with 2001's Every Six Seconds, a CD I remember wanting when I was younger. I was a big fan of that song "Your Disease," with its great vocal harmonies, and I naturally wanted the CD it came on. I likewise liked how the CD had a bunch of stuff they played on the radio, like "Click Click Boom." The CD spawned about three hits.

Skip forward eight years: does it hold up?

Saliva's sound here was when nu-mtal was king in the modern rock charts. The band switches it up a little by adding rap lyrics to some songs, but that doesn't curry my favor (I like my rock to be rock).

It's an okay package, but I can't give my recommendation here.

There are some great songs on the album -- check out the aforementioned "Your Disease" and a nice selection of others. However, the overall tracklist and the now aged nu-metal sound of the band drops points off. It's above average for a nu-metal band, but average for a rock band -- if that makes sense?

Decent driving music, but I can't see putting this on today while in the house or doing things. It won't make you cringe, but the whole album just doesn't speak to me. However, when Saliva is good, it is good, and it's nice when the top hits come on the radio...

Save your money.
