The San Diego Zoo, in San Diego California is a wonderful zoo. I highly recommend paying the extra when you get there to be able to take the bus tour and also the gondola ride. The bus tour takes you around the zoo with a guide explaining the way the zoo is laid out and also gives you an over view of the areas you want to go back to. Once you pay this extra amount you can get on a bus anywhere and get off at any other stop to save some walking. They also have a couple of shows you can go to that are well done. And don't forget the Panda exhibit. You can see the Panda bears and there is also an area that teaches you about the bears and their habitat. It's easy to see how the baby bears are so fragile when they are born when you can see the size they are and how big the parents are. The food is OK and priced fairly decently for this type of facility. I highly recommend this zoo, there are many animals here that you can't see elsewhere.
