Saturns Are Built To Last And Last By Mom2One on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Back in 1996, My husband (then finance) and I were looking for a new car, our first car as a couple.

We walked into the Saturn Dealership. We ended up purchasing a brand new 1997 Saturn SL2. We ordered dark blue outside (almost with a tint of purple) with black interior. We drove it off the lot with just 3 miles on it.

I have to tell you this car was great. It was on the small side, but with just 2 of us we didn't need anything bigger. It got good gas mileage and with regular maintenance the car kept on ticking.

When we had our son we still kept this car for a few years as our family car. Once he got a bit older we decided to upgrade to a more standard family vehicle, but my husband kept this Saturn as the 2nd car to get back and forth to work.

Last year we decided it was time to retire the old car. We had the car for 10 years and put on over 274,000 miles on it! Expect for the standard routine care we never had to put any extra repairs into this car. Just within the last year before we retired it, it was starting to burn oil and have some other oil issues. We didn't want to put any money into it to fix it so we sold it for $500 to a young man and believe it or not, he has repaired it (sort of) and it is still going strong.

I would 100% recommend this car, especially to a young student just starting out or even if you need a 2nd car.

Never once were we ever disappointed in our Saturn.

We've had Saturns and I agree with you. Especially the first few initial years off the assembly line. They do just last and last.

I on an Ion and a Sky and love them both, very few problems, economical and well built. The Saturn service departments are also great.

I've heard lots of good things about Saturn's. We definitely will be looking into it as gas prices are soaring.
