I am not a big fan of guns, which is kind of strange because I grew up in a family of avid hunters. I also married a hunter. Right before we got married in 2005, my husband won a bear hunting trip to Maine. Because these trips book up so early he had to book his for September 2006, on the week that coincided with our first anniversary.

Even though my husband has many guns, he did not have one that was good enough to shoot a bear. So for his anniversary present I decided to buy him a new rifle. Knowing practically nothing about rifles, i went to several of my male relatives for advice. Many suggested I look at a Savage. I researched them on the internet and then talked to a gunshop owner my brother-in-law recommended. With his help I finally settled on the Savage 270 WSM.

This is a 270 caliber, short action rifle. It has an overall length of 43.75 in. and a barrel length of 24 in. It weighs 6.75 lbs. and has a magazine capacity of of 2 rounds. It came with a 3-9x40mm scope already mounted and bore-sighted. It has a 1 in 11 in. rate of twist. It has blued barrel action and a top loading box magazine. It comes with a nylon sling attaced by swivel studs.

What my husband likes best about this rifle is the AccuTrigger. This is a new type of trigger that Savage developed. It lets the shooter adjust the trigger pull to the desired setting without having to take the gun to a gunsmith to have it set. The AccuTrigger contains an AccuRelease that must be completely depressed for the rifle to fire. It has a teardrop shaped safety which is supposed to be easier for the shooter to use.

My husband really likes this rifle and was suprised that I managed to pick out such a good one. Even though he didn't get a bear on his trip he still had a wonderful time. He is planning a hunting trip out west next year with his uncle and says this rifle is perfect for other large game.
