When opening mail I have found this cutter to do a perfect job. It is convenient, portable, and compact, and opens most mail items, such as envelopes, postal paper, stretch wrap, or kraft paper. Not for opening boxes, or cardstock paper. The cutter has a hardened stainless steel blade which is very sharp, and the total lenght of the cutter is about 6 inches long, which is covered by a plastic decorative cover . To use for cutting you have to insert paper into cutter blade, then hold paper in place and push forward to cut. If you are opening envelopes or such insert cutter blade under lip of envelope and push forward until open. Be careful not to cut the paper inside of envelope. There is never an exposed blade. Safe enough for children to use on their projects or cards they might receive.

Scotch does put out another one for wrapping paper (Xmas, or Birthday), but this one is the same , and works just as good. No need to purchase two of these when one does the same job, unless you want to store one with your wrapping paper. This is a staple on my desk and it gets daily use when opening the bills and junk mail
