Seagate 300 Gb External By Yangmun Choi on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

The Seagate 300 GB External hard drive is a great addition to your computer system. It holds a total of 279 GB of data (after the conversion factor), and is connectable by USB or Firewire. If connected by Firewire, the device can serve in a daisy-chain system, and can further improve your storage capacity without increasing the number of connections you need.

The External requires a short (estimated 5 seconds) of warm up time before it is functional. It turns itself off automatically after about 10 minutes of no use. This can get annoying at times, especially when one is playing a time-intesive game and the last part of the level is still on disk and needs to get to memory.

The External has a good transfer rate and a very good read and write rate. After several tests, the read/write rate for Firewire ends up at about 15 MB/s, while for USB it tops at about 5 MB/s.

I like Seagate products myself. Their hard drives just seem to run quieter, smoother and faster than others other than Western Digital. I have been seriously considering buying an external hard drive to store my writing. This sounds like a winner.
