Secret Daughter By Gayle Parks on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I found this book on a Bargain Book table at the local grocery store. I can't walk past a table of books and I have found that I find lots of good ones on bargain racks. This book was one of the good ones. It it the true story of a mixed-race woman who was born to a white actress in the 1950's. She tells the story of her childhood along with all the pain, love, humor, humiliation, joy, sorrow and shame that came with it. She effectively and meaningfully tells how she came to accept her mother ,even with all her shortcomings, and went on to become a successful television producer. It is told with clarity and just the right amount of emotion. It is one of those books that is hard to put down once you begin to read it. A very good read. Look for it online in all the usual places like Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

I hope I can find this one PA. I love accounts of real life people who manage to triumph over personal pain. Thank you for bringing this great non-fiction book forward, so others may enjoy it.
