Selmer S80 Mouthpiece Great Classical Tone By mpm5000 on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

I have been playing the alto saxophone for the last eight years. Over that time period I have played on three mouthpieces; a stock Yamaha 4C, a Selmer Larry Teal, and a Selmer S80 (C*). The stock Yamaha produced an extremely bright, strident tone. The Larry Teal produced an overly dark and was difficult to play on in my opinion. The S80 on the other hand was extremely easy and comfortable to play on while still providing a dark, desirable classical tone (I would not reccomend it for jazz playing, look at the Meyer hard rubber mouthpiece for that). If you are searching for a beautiful, warm tone for your classical sax playing, stop searching, buy the Selmer S80, start making beautiful music.

My father was a professional sax player. He could relate to your experience with mouthpieces. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, I did not know that the type of mouthpiece makes so much difference.
