Sesame Beginnings Video By traceyb22 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I checked this video, Beginning Together, out at the library for my son to watch when he was about 18 months. He loves watching the Elmo's World portion of Sesame Street and I thought he would like this video with baby Elmo in it. The DVD is 30 minutes long and is for ages 6 months and up.
Overall, this was a huge disappointment. It starts off with a fairly long segment of a doctor talking about how important parent-child interaction is. When it finally gets to the part for babies it has segments with baby Elmo, baby Big Bird, baby Cookie Monster and baby Prairie Dawn with their caregivers. They play games and sing songs about things in babies' everyday routines - bathtime, bedtime, palytime, etc. These segments are mixed with ones of parents and babies singing the songs and playing the games the muppets just did. Singer Brandy and her daughter are also in several segments.
The video did not hold my son's attention at all. The songs were boring and the scenes with muppets were too short. He wasn't at all interested in seeing the other babies and moms and dads. We never even got through the whole video. Maybe it's better for younger babies, but if you are looking for a video starring Elmo and the rest of the Sesame Street gang, I'd skip this one. At least try to preview you it before you buy it to see if your child will like it. It just isn't very entertaining.

Seems really odd that a series that has produced so many winners would have such a dud. It would be interesting to hear how other little ones reacted to this.
Sorry this wasn't that good. I am a big fan of Elmo! Wish this were more entertaining for kids.
My daughter loves Sesame Street so this is something I would of been interested in. Thanks for sharing your experience, we'll try a different one now.
I got this video too. My daughter ignores it when I put it on. No interest at all.
Sesame Street.... I'm surprised they could not do better!
That is so sad that the video did not hold your son's attention.
Thanks for sharing your experience with this video. Always good to hear which videos entertain and which don't.
Too bad it wasn't more entertaining, thanks for the warning.
18 months seems really young to me. Perhaps your son was either ahead of this type of video or not quite ready...attention span wise I mean. I t is hard to really know since at 18 months children can not really look at us and say..."gee...mom...this is so boring!"
