"Shadow Music" by Julie Garwood was a bit of a disappointment. I've read MANY of Ms. Garwood's books in the past, and when I found this one, I was excited to curl up and enjoy it on a cool winter's day. Unfortunately, it was not one of my favorites. I feel like a lot of the characters were not as developed as they could have been, especially the male lead of the story, Laird Colm MacHugh.

The story is an historical romance, set in the Scottish Highlands. Princess Gabrielle of St. Biel is betrothed in marriage to a Scottish Laird, but that marriage doesn't actually happen. She and her four royal guards are accidently caught up in a battle between clans.

On the positive note, this is a quick read, but to be honest, I almost didn't finish it. I recommend that you try one of Julie Garwood's other novels to enjoy.

I agree - Julie Garwood's Shadow Music is just not what we expect from Ms. Garwood! No depth, superficial characters and absolutely not the "read all night until you finish it" impact of her earlier books.
