Shemagh Headscarf By Peregrinus on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

The shemagh is the commercial form of the Arab headscarf. The model I have comes in two colours, tan and olive. It's used primarily by soldiers overseas to protect themselves from the sun and heat, wickign away sweat and keeping the skin cool and dry.

Two ways of wearing it are the headscarf (pictured) and the neck scarf (use your imagination).

The shemagh is availale from many retailers and companies and usually retails between $15 and $25. It's made of 100% cotton, 44" by 44" in size, fairly thin, but when foldedmakes an excellent short scarf (keep the neck warm, tuck the ends into your coat).

If you know someone in the military, they might really appreciate this gift as a subsitute to the crappy standard issue scarves.

I love my shemagh, which was gifted to me by a coworker who had a few.
