Show Me Your Smile!: A Visit to the Dentist Dora
By Beth Kayhart onMy five year old has a ton of books. So what would make this one so special that I would want to write a review about? It is perfectly written for any child that might be a little scared of visiting the dentist. The book is designed to explain to the child what to expect. It is very realistic. Dora the Explorer must go to the dentist. She talks about the tools used, getting an X-ray, and teeth cleaning. To me, what made this book great is that Dora actually has a cavity. In most books I have seen, the kid goes to the dentist and gets told that they have no cavities and they leave happy and smiling. I was glad to see they didn't sugarcoat this book that way. It also isn't presented in too much detail as to scare the child either though. It is just the right amount of explanation. My son has bad teeth and we knew he was going to have to have a lot of work done, which started around 3 years old. I saw this book before his first visit and I think I really helped ease his fears. He has since sat perfectly through so much dental work. His dentist tells him that he takes it better than most adults he sees.
