Sixaxis Ps3 Controller: More Than Meets The Eye By swood on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

The Playstation 3 Sixaxis controller may at first appearance seem to be quite similar to the Playstation 2 controller. This is not the case. The controller is different in quite a number of ways. First, it is significantly lighter than the PS2 controller. Second, the L2 and R2 buttons are larger, at an angle, which makes them operate more like triggers and allows them to be pressed easier. Third, it features a "ps3" button in the middle, which is often utilized in communicating with the console when playing a game or using one of the PS3s features. Fourth, it has "Sixaxis" control, which detects movement of the controller itself and is utilized in different ways in different games. Truthfully, this feature is the coolest, yet most under-recognized and under-utilized aspect of the PS3 controller. Finally, fifth, the only disavantage of the controller is lack of rumble capability, which is going to be remedied with the release of a 'dualshock' controller in 2008 - making the traditional controller more or less obsolete. Lame. If you need one, grab one, otherwise, wait for dualshock!
