Sketchers Children's Shoes A Poor Value By momincharge on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I purchased my 18-month-old daughter a pair of Sketchers tennis shoes because I believed the quality of the shoes would make them a good choice.
Overall I have been very dissatisfied with this pair of shoes.
The design of the shoes features a very cute elastic lacing system with Velcro flaps designed to keep the shoes snug. The problem with this design is that the elastic stretches too easily. As a result the shoe falls off whenever it is tugged on. My daughter loses her shoes whenever she gets her foot slightly stuck anywhere, including places like between the cushions of the couch. Fortunately for us she announces to us "shoe" whenever one falls off but it is way too common of an occurrence. The shoes are the correct size so the issue is not that they are too big but rather than that the elastic is simply too stretchy.
My biggest complaint about these Sketchers, however, is the durability. After my daughter had worn the shoes only about a month I noticed obvious wear on the soles of the shoes. Sections of the soles have worn away enough so that different colors are showing through and in several places there is a great deal of "pitting" or small open bubble type holes.
While these were not extremely expensive shoes I did expect better wear out of Sketchers based on their reputation. The shoes are cute but I will not be purchasing children's sized shoes again.

I've had similar experiences with Skechers when my boys were younger. The same issues with rapid sole wear and stretching so much, one of the boys literally hopped out of his shoe!
This is good to know. Kids shoes should be durable, withstanding the torture they go under. My little one wants some of these, I'm going to go with another brand for sure.
I have heard that these are not very durable form many people I have talked to around the neighborhood. Thanks for sharing this information.
WHat an adorable pair of shoes. I agree with Alice because I would have taken them back as well. If no one complains then they will never know! Sorry to hear you didn't get more than a month out of them!
I have owned many pairs of Skechers and never had trouble with my own but the two times I bought them for my children they just didn't work out. I just don't think they have the children's market perfected yet. I would have at least called the company with a complaint on them or something.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with these shoes. I always thought sketchers were supposed to make relly quality items. My son has been asking for a pair, now I will have to look at them really closly before I get him some, thank you for the warning.
Thanks for the warning about these shoes. I would have thought that with them being sketchers they would have been great. I hope they improve some on these.
