Slashers
By Kevin Assam onFor those of you reading this review you've probably been exposed to the 2001 film by Maurice Devereaux call Slashers or $la$her$.The movie itself is unbelievable and it views a whole new take on reality tv and just how far it can really go.In this case we are talking about contestants risking their lives for millions of dollars as we watch them live try to fend themselves from homocidal slashers who will kill you in anyway possible, from cutting you in half with a chainsaw to cutting your stomach open and pulling out your guts to stabbing you with a hook. The film has the show based in japan with the host being the very quirky Miho Taguchi. In the film Slashers the tv show is having it's first all american special with american contestants, being that the show's main supply of contestants are Korean,Japanese and Chinese. They are pitted against three slashers (the ones who try and most of the times kill you) who are Chainsaw Charlie, a redneck sporting a chainsaw as his weapon,Preacherman a newbie slasher with a cross with a sharp end as his weapon and finally Dr.Ripper who seems to be the best and most deadly Slashers and his weapon of choice is a massive bone shears as well as another surprise. The rest you'll have to watch and find out but I promise you that if you love horror films then this will be very refreshing for you and it will for sure become an all time favorite.
TheDVD must be selected carefully as there are three different ones each with less special features than the other. The one you should purchase and the one I am talking about depicts all three slahsers in the upper left corner of the dvd box and the cover also shows a running contestant near a sort of cage like door. Now to the extras, the dvd is loaded with them. They included a special "making of slahers" as well as the important director's commentary.A nice feature is the entire soundtrack on the dvd and there is an interview with Neil Napier who plays both Chainsaw Charlie and Preacherman (you'll find out how the pull that off in the director's commentary and in the making of special). There also the usual trailers for the movie and the bios for all the actors. But the soundtrack is absolutely brilliant and is the main thing I loved about the dvd. There is also a couple of gory deleted scenes sure to make your stomach churn with unpleasantness.
Final Verdict: An amazing movie and DVD altogether.A must buy for anyone looking to watch a new horror film and an even bigger compulsary buy for fans of the movie who wish deep down that the movie was real.
