SlipKnoT 'Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses' 2004
By John Leblanc onSlipKnoT's third studio album 'The Subliminal Verses' starts of on a strange note. The song "Prelude 3.0" is...different, but in an amazing way. The guitar in it [and call me a nerd for this, haha] sounds alot like when you're in the jungle in Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for the Nintendo 64, and I love it because of that. It adds that creepy-deranged feeling to the song. The deranged feeling comes back again on the song Vermillion, and the guitar is what does it yet again. This album also features "Before I Forget," my favorite song on the album [which was also on Guitar Hero III], which has possibly the catchiest chorus ever. This is an EXTREMELY heavy album - in my opinion, even comparable to that of Lamb of God or Children of Bodom, except for four songs - "Circles," "Prelude 3.0," "Vermillion Pt. 2," and "Danger - Keep Away." While that may seem like a large list of not-very-metal songs for a SlipKnoT album, but they are still great songs, and it's always nice to have an album that doesn't keep the same style throughout the entire thing. After all, metal, metal, and MORE metal does get boring after awhile. In the end: 'Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses' - a great album by a great band.
