Slow Down!
By Eggy onThis speed limit sign looks official and was reasonably priced. Some of my neighbors debated whether to choose 'CAUTION Children at Play', 'Speed Limit 10 MPH', and 'Speed Limit 15 MPH'.We decided on the 15 MPH because 10 MPH is too slow, and there are only children around occasionally so people would become desensitized and just ignore the sign.
We got this through ACEToGo.comThey have free shipping to your local ACE Hardware (Excluding Alaska and Hawaii)!
The sign measures 12" X 18" and comes with pre-drilled holes and is packaged in a protective polybag. It is made of.032 inch aluminum and is of a quality that you would see on normal signs installed by the city.It is not truly a reflective sign, but the white background with black letters makes it very easy to see.
If you are lucky and can affix it to a pole that you can drill a hole through, mounting can be quite straightforward. Our was mounted on a lamp post with electric cables inside.Fortunately, a neighbor was able to borrow a band strapping tool and get the appropriate band straps and brackets. In today's world, it is probably a good idea to use anti-vandal sign mounting bolts.
Everybody is happy with our HY-KO Products Company Speed Limit 15 MPH Sign.

I wasn't aware you could erect your own signs good idea, you should send the city a bill for doing their job ;)
Oh, I forgot to mention that we were not really concerned about that legal niceties. ;o This is definitely something to consider if you live someplace where they are picky about such things!
Sounds illegal. Errecting non local government signs aren't even classified as real", and is known to councils as littering.
