Small Fire Safe By Kakoa on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
My hubby and I needed something that we could store all of our personal info in that was lockable and fire proof. We received this safe for our wedding and is has held up great over the years.
It is large enough that we can store all our personal paperwork with extra room to add things later. You can't store too many bulky things in this safe, it's mainly for documents. It is small enough that we can store it in our other gun safe for extra security. It can fit on a closet shelf too, but I would put it somewhere else a little more secure.
The size and weight of this safe makes it convenient to more around, but it can also be dangerous. If someone comes into your house and wants to walk off with it, they wouldn't have a problem taking it. It does not come with bolts to secure it to the floor or walls.
The locking mechanism is a large clamp that comes down over the bottom half, and is secured with a turn key. It is good to keep most people out, but I'm sure if you really wanted to get it you could just break the latch.

When my husband and I were first married, we bought one of these small safes and have it to this day. Like you said, they are great for important documents and maybe small pieces of costly jewelry. Over the years, we need a larger one but we still use this one for some important items. You made a great point about them not being burglar proof as one could just enter and walk out with it. Our larger one would be really hard to take. Perhaps when you amass more documents ,etc. you should get a larger one. Great description of the safe!
This was the original fire safe that I had. It was a great size when it was just me and I needed to only hold things like my birth certificate and other important papers. Unfortunatly I eneded up loosing the key for it and had to break the lock to get in it and your right that it was pretty easy to break in. I had it mainly to protect my papers in case of a fire and not to keep anything away from the bad guys so I was not concerned with how easy it was to get in it when I had it.
Sounds like a great little safe to use when you are starting out and do not have lots of papers to store.
My husband and I have the same one, and for the first few years we used it, with time it tends to run of of space so we ended up buying a larger one, this one was great and did serve it purpose for important papers and small items.
This looks like a safe that would be easy to hide & store important papers!
Good thoughts. Seems like a good starter-safe, or just a good place for passports, etc...
