The Smart bus system (located at 535 Griswold Detroit MI, 48226) is something that I've been relying upon for over 2 years now, after something happened to my car. Now looking back on the drawbacks of having a car, vs. taking the bus - the "grass is not greener on the other side" - meaning that driving a car now, does not seem so appealing.

The major drawbacks of using your own car for transportation:

1. car payments

2. gas prices

3. insurance costs

4. maintenance

The pluses are certainly the convenience and comfort.

Now having said that... lack of convenience and comfort are (obviously) two of the drawbacks of taking public bus transportation.

However, as for the bus pluses: the only thing that you need is a bus schedule, to have bus fare or a pass - which is pretty cheap considering the alternative - (a taxi cab is quite an expensive choice).

You certainly do need to dress appropriately for the weather, sometimes walk the extra distance from the bus stop to your destination point, and of coarse you must be on time to catch the bus - which is usually on time, rarely early, and once in a very great while... a little late.

This is what I have experienced with the Smart bus system.
