Sonic the Hedgehog, one of the most popular video game characters of all time, had a number of TV shows over the years. Perhaps the most popular was this one, simply titled Sonic the Hedgehog. Now, the entire series is available to own on DVD. How does it fare?
The evil Dr. Robotnik has overthrown the king of Mobius and taken over the planet. Now, inhabitants the world over are being turned into robots to work in his smelly factories. Thankfully, there's a ray of hope: a group of rebels known simply as the Freedom Fighters have gathered together to topple Robotnik's empire and free the planet. The fastest and coolest among them is Sonic the Hedgehog himself.
This classic series remains strong in the hearts of fans nearly 15 years after it's original release, and this box set featuring the complete 26-episode series shows it. The entire packaging is nothing but fan art, from the back cover to the discs to the disc cases. Special features are enjoyable. We learn how the writing process works in an interview with Ben Hurst, head writer of season 2. He also goes into what would've happened had the series not been abruptly cancelled after the second season. Also featured is an interview with Sonic's voice actor Jaleel White, the pilot script, a storyboard for the final episode, concept art, and more.
This set is a dream come true for fans of the series, and no one should stop themselves from picking it up.
