I went out looking to replace my old VHC camcorder, and I happeened to run into the Sony DCR-HC26 MiniDV camcorder. What I liked initially was the size. No more lugging around that camcorder the size of a car.
The Sony DCR-HC26 is a miniDV camcorder. For those of you who don't know what a miniDV tape looks like...just imagine a smaller audio cassette.
As for features it has a 20x optical/800x digital zoom, Carl Zeiss Lense, super steady shot stabilization, USB streaming, I-Link DV interface, 2.5 inch swival LCD screen. The battery life last approximately a hour, but there are alot of aftermarket batteries that will increase the recording life...and I would suggest that. The battery charger does a excellent job. USB streaming is great but if you want true digital picture, and it makes a big difference, I would suggest the Ilink(Firewire cable which much be purchases seperately).
Overall I'm extremely happy with this purchase, its small, not to complicated, but has plenty of options!

I've been pretty happy with a couple of Sony electronic products in the past. I want a camcorder SOOOO bad. I'll have to check this out.
I remember those camcorders as big as a car! On my first trip to Disney with my family we had one of those and it was so heavy and such a nuisance! This sounds like a really good camcorder though and I like that it's compact in size. The price is just right too! :o)

Uncomplicated...that's what I need. I still haven't figured my camcorder out after 7 years!
Have this video camera at work, and it's great and i'm able to keep in hidden inside my jacket until I need it. Kinda shaky picture though when i'm running through the woods.
This sounds like the perfect size to tuck into a purse-I better take a peek at this since we're in the market for a new camcorder!
Sony products are good brand but sometimes they do fail on us ...like my old sony cybershot camera, it broke down twice, Glad that yours is ..so far so good. Thanks for sharing your Sony DCR-HC26 MiniDV camcorder with us.
